sports vision - for our keen sportsmen and women

As a professional or keen amateur sportsmen and woman you strive to obtain the most optimum performance in your sport.

For most sports, visual performance plays an integral role in achieving the best. Indeed, the Sports Vision Association is dedicated to improving the knowledge of optometrists in this area.

In many sports, particularly ball games, it is not just the quality of vision but also the efficiency and accuracy of eye movements. Proficiency in hand-eye and foot-eye co-ordination is essential.

As sports vision practitioners we can prescribe orthoptic exercises to strengthen eye muscles and vision therapy exercises to enhance body-eye co-ordination as well as eye movement control and accuracy.

We are also able to provide advice on eye protection to prevent the serious eye injuries that are prevalent with some sports such as squash.

There are many special types of lens and spectacle designs to help improve the performance and enjoyment of cyclists, scuba divers, skiers and swimmers. Fishing enthusiasts require special tints. A range of shooting spectacles and lenses are available. Eye protection is essential for all squash players and any ball game player who wears spectacles must use unbreakable lenses.

Please ask for advice. We keep a wide range of sports spectacles, sunglasses and goggles from prescription scuba diving masks, squash goggles and prescription swimming goggles from the specialist UK company Norville to the ultimate in sun and wind protection for cyclists, sailors and mountaineers by the famous Californian company, Oakley.
