New coatings make lenses clearer, reflecting less and transmitting more light thus enhancing visual clarity and cosmetic appearance of the wearer. Advances in optical aberration control minimises inherent distortions in spectacle lenses to levels never experienced before. Improved optical, distortion free performance is now available not only in single vision but also in multifocal lens forms. Multifocal lenses may now be custom designed, taking into account the individual spectacle prescription, specific visual requirements, the shape and position of the spectacle frame used, and even the way an individual uses their eyes for a specific visual task.
